Promotions that were aimless in the end

Promotions that were aimless in the end

While hit shoots have become commonplace in the past few decades, promotions for photography have become more rare. This is probably because a shooting show can easily get a wrestler in trouble and ruin his career.

But back in the day, promotional photography used to happen frequently. And while some were good, most weren’t. The problem with this boredom was that it lacked purpose. These wrestlers came out and grumbled about someone or something, but that didn’t help advance their story or their rivalry. Didn’t do much of anything. Shoot promotions can be a great thing, but unless you improve the imagination, people won’t care.

7 Jeff Jarrett shoots WWE and WCW

Jeff Jarrett left WWE and signed with WCW for one year. He was one of the first few wrestlers to return to action under Vince McMahon. In October 1997, Jarrett interrupted a working promotion against WCW and WWE.

It was alleged that both Eric Bischoff and Vince McMahon put a lid on his potential and then also took shots of some of his most famous wrestlers, including “Stone Cold” Steve Austin (who hated Jarrett).

The problem with his promotion was that the company didn’t order him to come out and insult Austin. The Texas Rattlesnake was on his way to becoming WWE’s biggest wrestler, and Jarrett’s words weren’t good with the management.

6 Koji Kitao exposes the business

In the ’90s, Kaivapi was still very much alive, and wrestlers acted this way too. In 1991, Earthquake and Koji Kitao worked in a shootout match against each other at SWS’s Wrestle Dream in Japan. They were both former sumo wrestlers and fans were excited for this match.

These two actually worked against each other a few days before the SWS event. But the rematch turned into a shootout battle, which ended after Kitao attacked the referee and Earthquake won by disqualification. Furious at his loss, the Japanese wrestler took a microphone from the ring announcer and then revealed his wrestling business. He also said that Earthquake would never beat him in a real fight. Kitao was immediately launched from SWS.

This Day 5 Scott Steiner video makes fun of Ric Flair

Scott Steiner and Ric Flair did not like each other. In 2000, Steiner decided to cut a promotional show against Flair. He said a lot of things that were insulting to the wrestling legend.

Big Poppa Pump may have crossed the line when he said people switched their channel to watch WWE when Flair appeared on Nitro. This resulted in Steiner being suspended for two weeks from WCW, which was more like a two-week sabbatical because he continued to get paid during that time.

4 Damien Sandow Talks About Previous Employers

Damien Sandow could have become a big star in WWE, but it seems the company didn’t want him to succeed. Even with a terrible gimmick, Sandow managed to outsmart himself, but WWE never really took advantage of it.

When he joined Impact Wrestling in 2016, people expected him to do well. But on his first night in the company, Sandow, now Aron Rex, cut a promotional show against WWE. Its delivery was excellent, but it was the kind of promotion that people had seen hundreds of times before. Ironically, during the same promo, he said he wouldn’t talk about WWE.

3 Voodoo Kin Mafia Challenge D-Generation X

Billy Gunn was fired from WWE in 2004. He later joined TNA as Kip and formed Voodoo Kin Mafia with BG James (Road Dogg) in 2005. They started taking live shots in WWE and Vince McMahon, and even put up a Million Dollar Challenge to Triple H and Shawn Michaels. In short, they declared “war” on WWE.

Initially, their promo was promoted by the internet wrestling community but it did not lead to anything. WWE never responded, so they decided to declare their victory at Final Decision 2007.

2 Vince Russo shoots Hulk Hogan

Bash at the Beach 2000 was perhaps the most chaotic WCW pay-per-view in history. The WCW Championship match between Hulk Hogan and Jeff Jarrett ended when he put the champ on Hogan to pin him down.

Later, Vince Russo went out to the ring and buried Hogan with a promotional shoot. This was supposed to be a successful shot, but Rousseau crossed the line. Hogan was legitimately annoyed by this. Then he left WCW and never appeared again.

1 The McMahon family admit their show needs some tweaks

In 2018, the McMahon family came to Raw and admitted there were flaws in their product. They also promised a change in the coming weeks. Right after that, they went on to blame Baron Corbin for Raw’s low viewership.

For a while, people thought McMahon would listen to them, and give them what they wanted. This happened for a while, but then WWE went back to their old routine and stopped listening to people.

Wrestling likes to break the fourth wall sometimes – some of those shoots worked, but others didn’t.
