More mysterious roars have been reported in the Tucson area

TUCSON, AZ (Cold News 13) – Another shock can be felt across the Tucson metro on the afternoon of Monday, January 24.

People from as far southeast as Vail to as far north as Oracle Town reported prosperity. That’s about 65 miles. Residents say they sensed the presence of two of them around 1:15 p.m.

Linda Marie wrote on my Facebook page, “It looked like something had fallen on my roof. It shook my house.”

Sharon Richardson Spall left a message, “Yes! I heard it and it sounded like a thump and my upstairs seemed to shake. Like sometime last week. Maybe Friday? I’m near Greasewood and Starr Pass.”

These mysterious mutations have been happening for years. It has been described by many as an earthquake but is not recorded as one on the seismometer at the University of Arizona School of Earth Sciences. Such is the case with Boom on Monday.

“The start of the signal today is at 1:15 p.m. There are two signals but the signal at about 376 seconds is probably what most people found as they passed through Tucson,” Lee Susan Beck, professor and director of the graduate program in the Department of Earth Sciences, tells me. “It doesn’t look like an earthquake. Typical, so I’d lean toward a sonic blast of some sort. The signal at ~356 secs (shorter duration rise) might be a mine blast but again with one stop it’s hard to pinpoint with certainty.”

I have contacted our local military facilities. Davis-Monthan Air Force Base says none of its planes produced a sonic boom on Monday afternoon.

Tanja M. Linton, Media Relations at Ft. Huachuca said, “Air Force Thunderbirds got here from New Mexico for two weeks of training (but) there were no sonic booms because supersonic flying is prohibited in this airspace. What they probably heard was a little smoky burning as we surveyed the site Upon arrival “.

I reached out to Media Relations for Thunderbirds to see if they could set up a sound barrier on Monday and have had no response. Looking at the gurgling, we could feel strongly further north which just doesn’t seem possible at this point.

Luke Air Force Base is checking but says at this time they are not aware of any of their planes, which usually fly west of Tucson over the Barry Goldwater Range, producing a sonic boom. I’ve also had calls to ASARCO Mining to check out any potential detonations, but, again, these mining explosives won’t be felt far.

Note: EOD teams will conduct explosive range testing at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM on Tuesday, January 25.
