The City of Jefferson, Missouri observes Earthquake Awareness Month every February to emphasize the real danger of a catastrophic earthquake in the New Madrid Seismic Zone (NMSZ).

The NMSZ, centered in southeastern Missouri, has caused some of the most powerful earthquakes in US history, according to a news release.
