Iran crisis: Tehran launches missile attack and President Trump responds – BBC News

President Trump has said he is standing by Iran after launching more than 20 missiles at Iraqi U.S. troops at the station. He urged countries, including the United Kingdom, to send Iran a "clear and unified message" that Iran's "terrorist campaign" will no longer be tolerated.

Ballistic missiles were launched in western Kermanshah Province in response to the killing of US General Qasem Soleimani.

Iraq's Al-Asad airline struck 17 times, including two missiles that did not disappear. According to the Iraqi government, five other missiles were routed to an Irbil base. Both the UK and US governments have said that none of the citizens was killed or injured.

In his speech this afternoon, Donald Trump said the US would impose additional sanctions on Iran.

Meanwhile, shortly after the missile attack on Iran, the Ukrainian passenger plane, carrying 176 people, including 3 British, left Iran shortly after. He was not alive.

Most of the passengers on the Boeing aircraft were from Iran and Canada. Several airlines have said they will avoid Iranian airspace.

Sophie Raworth reports on Jeremy Bowen, Nick Bryant, Laura Kuenssberg and Tom Burridge.
