A 5.8 earthquake shakes Leyte City, and shaking is felt in Cebu

CEBU CITY, Philippines – A 5.8 magnitude earthquake shook the city of San Francisco in southern Leyte early Thursday morning, January 23.

It was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) at 7:39 am

Density was V at Padre Burgos, southern Leyte; The fourth intensity was recorded in Hinonangan and Maasin, southern Leyte; Intensity III was recorded in Palu, Dulag, Ormoc City and Karigara in Leyte.

Just six minutes later at 7:45 a.m., a 2.5-magnitude force struck the municipality of Tomas Opus, still in southern Leyte, according to an 8 a.m. Phivolcs bulletin.

Moreover, several parts of Cebu also experienced tremors.
