It could take up to six months for UK life to return to “normal”, the UK’s chief medical officer has said.

Dr Jenny Harries added in a government-run daily briefing, “It doesn’t mean that we would be in complete lockdown for six months.”

But he added, “We need to be really responsible and keep doing what we’re doing.”

The number of deaths from coronaviruses reached 1,228.

Among those killed with the virus are Amged El-Hawrani, a 55-year-old physician and an ear, nose and throat educator at Burton’s Queen’s Hospital. His death was confirmed before the press release. An organ transplant counselor died last week.
