Expectations of coronavirus vaccine progress – BBC News

Leading scientists around the world are pleased to note that the results of the coronavirus vaccine have been 90% effective. The vaccine, developed by pharmaceutical giant Pfizer and its partner BioNtech, has been tested on 43,500 people in 6 countries without the safety concerns raised so far. Jonathan Van-Tam, England’s deputy medical director, has said he is hopeful the vaccine will be available by Christmas and more widely available next spring. Boris Johnson said a “significant hurdle” was cleared, but several others were missing. Some experts noted that the announcement was made very early, as the vaccine had not yet been formally approved. International stock markets rose after the announcement. Among the companies that benefited were pandemics hit hard by airlines, hotels and travel companies.
