Excessive death toll shows more Covid deaths in England than official records – BBC News
According to official government data, more than 50,000 people have died with Covid-19 in the UK. However, another measure – the excessive number of deaths – says the virus has killed more than 71,000 people. Excessive deaths is the difference between this year’s deaths and the average number in the last 5 years. Recent data also highlights differences in the UK in this second wave of the pandemic, which has seen more deaths than usual in the north-west of England, with London seeing no difference.
