The time when Earthquakes coach Diego Almeida surprised Diego Maradona

Diego Maradona died Wednesday, the immortal football star suffers from a heart attack in his hometown of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Maradona’s legendary career of play overlapped briefly with that of San Jose Earthquakes coach Matias Almeida, Almeida and Maradona at opposite ends of the Boca Juniors-River Plate Classico in the mid-1990s.

Both have been international players for Argentina for a long time, but while Maradona’s role was to provide magic in attack, Almeida was the engine room, a defensive midfielder doing the dirty work of the attacking stars.

Palme and Maradona ended up playing together, in a sense, as they traveled the world on a show tour after Almeida’s first retirement, and apparently they knew each other well, and Meda’s career advancement – from Greater Argentina to Spain, Italy, and then back home again – The opposite of Maradona.

Maradona was so ill between 2004 and 2005, the treatment for dealing with long-term drug addiction and weight gain has given him another 15 years of his life, even though he never kicked his demons.

But there is a video that was widely circulated after Maradona’s death from this period, right after he recovered in 2005, in which Almeida shows the surprise of the legend on his talk show.

At the age of twelve, a young peladoalmeyda wrote a letter to his idol.

I think the best part about this is that Maradona fully realized that the happiness he was expecting to meet turned into Almeida, who himself was famous and successful, and became emotional. Described by Almeida as “a dream come true,” it’s a wonderful, influential coda.
