Prime Minister Modi greets the citizens before Guru Nanak Jayanti

New Delhi [India], 29 November (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday extended his greetings to the people on the eve of the first anniversary of the birth of the Sikh Guru-Guru Nanak Dev.

Addressing the nation in the United States, Prime Minister Modi said: “Tomorrow we will celebrate the birthday of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. His influence is clearly visible throughout the world. From Vancouver to Wellington, from Singapore to South Africa, his message is ubiquitous.” The 71st edition of his monthly radio show “Man Ki Pat”.

“… I feel I have special blessings from Guru Sahib because I have always been attached to all the activities associated with him. I feel deeply indebted because Guru Sahib prior to my services. Last year, the opening of the Kartarpur Saheb Corridor was historic,” he said.

Guru Nanak Jayanti celebrates with a lot of joy and fervor all over the country and different parts of the world on the full moon day in the month of Kartik according to the Hindu calendar. It has also been marked as Kartik Poornima.

The Prime Minister also spoke of the Lakhpat Gurudwara Sahib in Gujarat’s Kutch where the founder of the Sikh religion Guru Nanak Dev ji resided during the Udasi period.

“The 2001 earthquake damaged this Gurudwara. It was the blessing of Guru Sahib to ensure its regeneration. Not only has the Gurudwara been repaired, but its glory and splendor has also been restored. The restoration of the Lakhpat Gurudwara has been awarded a prize of excellence in the 2004 UNESCO Heritage Asia-Pacific Award” .

The Prime Minister commended the Sikh community for feeding people by organizing a lanjar (community lunch) in times of the Coronavirus pandemic.
