Residents feared an “explosion” after the 20th earthquake struck Perthshire in just two months

An area in Perthshire was hit by another – the 20th earthquake in just over two months.

The 2.0-magnitude tremor was the largest so far in the sequence and recorded by the British Geological Survey (BGS) at 3.22 am on Friday, leading residents to believe that there was an “explosion”.

Many residents are said to have felt it in Blackford, Oshterarder, Aprothfen, Bracko, Gleneagles, Glendefon and Greenling.

The BGS said people felt that “their whole house shook,” “windows and doors shook” and that it “looked like an explosion.”

The epicenter was near Gleneagles Golf Course.

This comes on the heels of a 0.9-magnitude earthquake on November 21 and the two shook within six minutes of each other four days earlier, with magnitudes of 0.7 and 0.9.

Another earthquake of magnitude 0.7 was recorded on November 11th.
