European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has said an agreement is not likely to end “difficult” talks. And the Prime Minister of the UK argued that the EU needed to make a “major change” on key points about fishing rights and rules for business competition. Sunday’s deadline was set by the two leaders after months of talks after no agreement was reached. If the two sides do not reach and ratify a trade agreement by 31 December, the UK and the EU may impose taxes – tariffs – on each other’s goods. This can lead to higher prices, among other changes.
