A massive landslide on the central coast of North Korea triggered a seismic event of its own: the geologist

Experts said a massive landslide at a remote inlet on the central coast of British Columbia caused a shock equivalent to an earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale.

The slide occurred at 6 a.m. on November 28 at Elliot Creek, east of the head of Bute Inlet north of the Powell River.

Part of the mountainside fell and a large portion of the debris crashed into an already swollen icy lake, sending a wave height of 70 to 110 meters.

An estimated 7.7 million cubic meters of water, mud, and rocks flow downstream and flow into the entrance, altering some of the salmon’s breeding habitats forever.

“I think he’s going to take out the races on Southgate (River) for this year,” Darren Blane, Head of Homalco First Nation, told Global News.

“It’s a strong march, so it will be a big loss for our community because the stock of friends who are friends has decreased, so it knocks it back more. Our people are getting fewer and fewer friendships for our social and festive purposes.”

Blane said the slide took out an 80-foot bridge that was part of logging in the area, and may have washed away the cabin as well.

Homalco First Nation runs tours of the bears in the area, and Blaney said they are meeting with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans to learn more about how the slip affects the area and what it can do to the bears and fish.

“The reason we are so focused on hatcheries and rebuilding our stocks is to protect our food security,” Blaney added.

A video filmed from a helicopter on Sunday shows the magnitude of the landslide as the debris falls.

Employees at 49 North Helicopters, based in Campbell River on Vancouver Island, said they heard an “unusual amount of wood” floating in Bute Inlet on the weekend.

They decide to fly over the entrance to the Southgate River and see miles of water, mud and debris.

Brent Ward, a professor of geology and co-director of the National Risk Research Center at Simon Fraser University, said they are still waiting for more information, but the dimension and weather make this task difficult.

Ward said: “What are the trigger, we do not know.” “We know it was cold. There wasn’t a lot of rain in that area. If there was any precipitation, it was snow.”
