3.3 An earthquake shakes things near Carpinteria – KEYT

Carpinteria, CA – If you felt a sudden jolt while lying in bed around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, you might have felt the 3.3-magnitude earthquake that struck not far from Carpinteria.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the epicenter of the earthquake occurred about 7.7 kilometers from Carpinteria, 16 miles from Santa Barbara and 18 miles from Ventura.

This earthquake has also been recorded as very shallow, and does not occur very far below the Earth’s crust.

About 300 people reported feeling the slight earthquake from Santa Barbara to Morpark. Some described it as a quick shake that made their windows shake.
