Coronavirus: Trump says disinfectant injection tips are just “sarcasm” – BBC News

One of the largest manufacturers of disinfectants has issued an urgent warning to treat coronaviruses that President Trump could inject into people with the substance.

Dettol and Vanish, the company that makes the products, among others, have warned that “under no circumstances” should their products be administered to humans “by injection, ingestion or by any other means”.

Disinfectants are poisonous if ingested and can be dangerous to external exposures to the skin, eyes and respiratory system. The president’s comments were heavily criticized by medical experts. He later said he was sarcastic. Today, 50,000 people have died in the United States from coronavirus infection.

Turkey, meanwhile, is suffering from coronavirus blockage in many cases. Authorities there say the outbreak is under control, but medical sources have told the BBC that there are no actual deaths in the country.

Sophie Raworth is presented by BBC News by North American editor Jon Sopel and International correspondent Orla Guerin.
