Punjab’s Minister of Colonies and Culture, Ahmed Castro’s imagination, left environmentalists in the dark on Friday over his understanding of why Earth Hour was being celebrated.

A gathering on the occasion of Earth Day was celebrated in District D in Faisalabad, organized by the Parks and Horticulture Authority, where schoolchildren participated in planting trees.

Castro was invited to the meeting as a guest of honor. While speaking to the media, he was asked to comment on what he understood as Earth Hour.

The minister responded by saying that Earth Hour was being celebrated to prevent “earthquakes”.

“Anywhere in the world, and wherever the earth comes – to stop it – the only thing that supports it, is the greenery and the trees,” he said.

“They (the trees) stop everything […] Earthquake. So we have to stop [them] And make the land green. “
