Hendersonville – If you feel a little sway on Sunday, you are not alone. A small earthquake struck Henderson County, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The earthquake, measuring 2.3, was reported near Hale Valley, outside Hendersonville, around 8 pm. May 3. Its depth is 8.6 kilometers, which is what USGS considers shallow.

Two people responded to “USGS”, did you feel it? Survey to say they felt the earthquake.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, western North Carolina and surrounding areas are subject to small earthquakes once every year or two. The U.S. Geological Survey says the largest earthquake in the region since 1776 was a magnitude 5.1 and occurred in 1916.
