UL joins Ireland as first for sports subjects in the new QS world rankings

The University of Limerick has again been ranked joint first in Ireland for sports-related subjects.

UL has three subjects ranked in the top 100 in the new QS World University Rankings 2024 by Subject, which have just been announced.

Internationally, UL has improved its rankings in the broad category of Arts and Humanities (383=) and Life Sciences and Medicine (501-550).

In individual subject disciplines, UL is ranked 51-100 worldwide for subjects related to sport, performing arts and nursing, with two subjects in education ranking 100-150 and English language and literature.

Overall, the ranking performance of ULs improved in 10 subjects.

Nationally UL is ranked joint first in sports-related subjects for the second consecutive year, and is second in performing arts, second in education, second in chemical engineering, second in materials science and third in the nurse.

The course listing covers a total of 55 disciplines, grouped into five broad subject areas.

The announcement of the subject rankings follows UL's significant improvement in its position in the QS World University Rankings 2024, climbing more than 100 places to a ranking of 426 overall.

UL is now in the top 2% of universities in the world.

The 2024 ranking includes a comprehensive assessment of the performance of the world's 1,503 best universities, spanning 104 countries.

For the 2024 QS World University Rankings by Subject, research citations, along with the results of QS global surveys of employers and academics are used to rank universities.
