Street cleaning begins on April 22

Spring is on its way and crews are getting ready to start clearing and cleaning the streets. Starting April 22, temporary parking restrictions will come into effect where the work is taking place.

Road cleaning will continue daily until all roads are completed. This will help reduce street litter and keep neighborhoods safe and clean for everyone.

Watch out for no parking signs

Temporary no parking signs will be posted 24 hours in advance where street cleaning is taking place. After 24 hours, parking restrictions will be in effect until the signs are removed. Be sure to move your vehicle off the road to avoid getting ticketed or towed and to ensure your entire road can be cleared.

Please check the electronic road signs for street clearance updates. These signs are at the entrance of each neighborhood.

Road cleaning schedule

On April 22, on-street parking restrictions for street cleaning will begin on major, secondary and tertiary streets, which are the busiest streets in Fort McMurray. Street cleaning will be done by neighborhood, in the following order:

In the city center
Waterways
Abasand/Grayling Terrace
Prairie Creek
Beacon Hill
Thick wood
Wood buffalo
Dickinsfield
Timberlea

Street cleaning on residential streets will follow the same order as above. The cleaning of the residential streets is expected to be completed by the end of June. Times are subject to change due to weather, street parking enforcement and other unforeseen circumstances.

Eradication of rural roads

Road sweeping in rural communities is expected to begin in mid-May, after completion of primary, secondary and tertiary roads and depending on weather and other circumstances. There are no parking restrictions, so rural residents will not need to adjust their parking practices to clear the streets.

For everyone's safety, please follow all posted signage, stay away from operators and keep a safe distance from equipment as dust can reduce visibility.
