Police Investigate Alleged Coronavirus Attack On London Student | News from the United Kingdom
Police are investigating an alleged racial hatred attack on a Singaporean student in London by a group of people who allegedly shouted at the coronavirus before beating it.
The officers said they were investigating reports of an attack on Oxford Street at around 9:30 p.m. last Monday, after Jonathan Mok shared photos of his beaten face and wrote about his ordeal in a Facebook post.
Mok said that one of the members of the group had tried to kick him in the head and said to him: I do not want your coronavirus in my country.
Scotland Yard said it received a report that a 23-year-old man had been punched and injured in the face, and officers were watching video surveillance to try to identify the suspects.
Mok said several racist provocations have been directed against him in recent weeks, some of which refer to the coronavirus. Writing about the incident last Monday, he said he was walking past a group of men when he heard one referring to the virus, and he stopped to watch them .
All of a sudden, the first punch was projected on my face and took me by surprise. When I was still shocked by the first blow, the guy gave the second sucker blow. By that time, a few passers-by had stopped and one of them tried to reason with them that four against one was not fair.
The friend of the attackers tried to kick me when I explained to the passer-by that I had done nothing at all. I tried to react in self defense but I couldn't do anything substantial because I was still recovering from a broken finger in my main hand.
The guy who tried to kick me then said: I don't want your coronavirus in my country, before swinging another sucker, which blew my face with blood (from my nose), where blood was splashed all over the sidewalk.

Mok, who has been studying in London for two years, said he hated being in the spotlight and that he didn't like writing posts on Facebook or any other social media platform, but the incident highlighted an important issue that needed to be brought to the forefront.
He said doctors told him he had facial fractures and that he may need to have reconstructive surgery.
