76 new cases confirmed in Ireland, 12 more dead-
Covid-19 resulted in an additional 12 deaths. The Ministry of Health announced tonight.
It brings the total death toll in the country to 1,584 people.
In addition, there are 76 newly confirmed cases in Japan, bringing the total number of cases to 24,391.
Today’s data from the HPSC at midnight (24,274) on Tuesday May 19 reveals the following:
- 57% women, 43% men
- The median age of confirmed cases is 48 years
- 3,183 (13%) were hospitalized
- 392 of them are hospitalized in the ICU
- 7,747 cases are associated with healthcare professionals
- Dublin has the highest number of cases at 11,765 (49% of all cases), followed by coke at 1,386 cases (6%), followed by kildare at 1,381 cases (6%).
- Of those whose infection status is known, 60% are infected in the community, 37% in close contact, and 3% in overseas travel.
Dr. Ronan Grin, Deputy Chief Medical Officer of the Ministry of Health, said: This is very positive and shows the extent to which public behaviour limits the spread of the disease.
“But we continue to be able to control the spread of COVID-19 throughout the community only through our continued commitment to hand washing, breath etiquette, and physical distance.”
