UK COVID-19 death to nearly 50,000, according to Reuters

LONDON (Reuters)-UK COVID-19 deaths approached 50,000 on Tuesday and the place was one of the worst hit countries in the world just as Boris Johnson tried to mitigate the outbreak of the severe novel coronavirus. I confirmed that it is one.

Tolls are currently 49,646 and include England and Wales death certificate data released Tuesday, May 22nd, previously published figures for Scotland and Northern Ireland, and recent hospital deaths in England.

Such a large-scale death caused Johnson’s criticism that he was too late for the opposition to impose lockdowns, too late to protect seniors in nursing homes, and to build testing and tracking systems. Said it was too late.

Mr Johnson’s government says he has made some mistakes but has been working on the biggest public health crisis since the flu outbreak in 1918, and has kept healthcare services from overwhelming.

Yet the death toll is even higher than predicted by the government’s own scientific advisors.

Unlike the daily fatalities announced by the government, Tuesday’s death certificate includes suspected and confirmed cases of COVID-19, a respiratory disease caused by the new coronavirus.
