Of the 23 inpatients with COVID-19, 13 were treated for COVID-19 and 10 were treated for anything other than COVID-19, but accidental infections were found.

At least 167 staff cases are currently active in LHSC and haven’t changed since Thursday, but have increased from 155 on Wednesday.

In St. Joseph Healthcare London, authorities reported 64 cases among healthcare professionals and 2 cases among patients or residents at both the Parkwood Institute Main Building. This will be compared to the case of 55 healthcare professionals and the case of one patient / resident on Thursday.

Case and test

On Friday, MLHU reported one death and 86 confirmed cases in a new laboratory.

The death involved a woman in her 60s who had nothing to do with long-term care or retirement homes. So far in March, there have been eight COVID-19-related deaths in the area.

Due to changes in PCR eligibility, daily case numbers are not considered a fully reliable reflection of COVID-19 activity in the region.

The health department states that there have been 32,991 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began. At least 692 were active (18 increase) and 31,944 resolved (128 increase).

A total of 355 deaths have been reported (1 increase).

The test positive rate for the week of March 6 was 17.5%, a significant increase from the 11.5% revised a week ago. It also shows the highest rate since the end of January.

In addition, MLHU reports the following active systematic outbreaks:

  • Longworth Retirement Residence, 1st and 2nd floors, Declared March 17th
  • Middlesex Health Alliance (4 counties – Acute Nursing Unit), declared in March. 12

vaccination

As of the end of March 12, 90.8% of residents over the age of 5 have been vaccinated with COVID-19 vaccine at least once (at least once () one week before), There were two 87.7% (up from 87.5 in the previous week).

On the third dose, 50.5% of people over the age of 5 received booster immunity, up from 50.2% a week ago. Please note that people between the ages of 12 and 17 are eligible for the third dose as of February 18, and those under the age of 12 are not yet eligible.

The state reported 615 hospitalized in COVID on Friday and 193 in the ICU. Last Friday’s numbers were 717 and 238, respectively.

Hospitalizations and patients in the ICU are the lowest since late December 2021.

Of the 615 inpatients, 44.5% were hospitalized for COVID and the rest were hospitalized for other reasons, but tested positive for COVID. Of the 193 ICUs, 79% were hospitalized for COVID.

Ontario also reported cases confirmed with 2,502 tests, which are underestimated due to test restrictions in a wide range of infections.

Six more virus-related deaths were reported, bringing the total pandemic to 12,313.


Elgin and Oxford

Southwestern Public Health publishes updates on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, excluding public holidays.

The health unit reported cases confirmed by 57 additional tests on Friday with no new deaths.

The most recent death was reported Wednesday, involving a man in his 90s from Oxford County and unrelated to the outbreak.

The positive test rate for the week of March 6 was 15.2%, up from 10.4% the previous week.

SWPH reported on Friday:

  • 11,610 cases (up 57 cases from Wednesday)
  • 225 active cases (15 increase)
  • 11,232 resolved cases (42 increase. Please note that SWPH will clear all cases after 10 days regardless of the result)
  • So far, a total of 153 people have died (no change)

Health unit officials reported one active systematic outbreak in Woodstock’s Chartwell Oxford Gardens. Declared on March 2, it includes 10 resident cases and 3 staff cases.

As of March 16, 81.1% of people over the age of 5 in the area have been vaccinated twice and 83.7% have been vaccinated at least once.

On Friday, Huron Perth Public Health reported one patient hospitalized for COVID-19.

In total, HPPH has reported 5,945 cases (up 33 cases) and 95 deaths (no change) so far.

The test positive rate for the week of March 6 was 11.8%, up from 7.9% the previous week.

HPPH reported a total of 753 cases of health care workers since March 2020, an increase of 5 cases from Thursday.

Currently, there are five active outbreaks.

  • Listowel Memorial Hospital, Declared March 12, 9 patients and 1 staff
  • A care facility at Spruce Lodge in Stratford. On March 12, four residents participated.
  • Godrich’s Godrich Place Retirement Home declared on March 14th. 10 residents and 5 staff members participated.
  • Godrich’s Harbor Hill Retirement Suite, declared March 17, includes two resident cases and one employee case.

As of March 14, 84.2% of residents over the age of 5 had at least one COVID-19 vaccination and 81.1% had two vaccinations.

The third exposure rate is 52.5% over 5 years old. However, those under the age of 12 have not yet received the third dose, and those between the ages of 12 and 17 are only eligible for booster immunization as of February 18.

The average ICU occupancy in the region was 38% in the week of March 6th.

Lambton Public Health will publish case information on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The health unit reported an additional 56 deaths on Friday, with no deaths, for a total of 131 deaths and 10,115 deaths.

At the Vision Nursing Home long-term care facility in Sarnia, only one outbreak remains active. It was declared March 7, and includes the case of 11 residents and the case of 5 staff or visitors.

The positive test rate for the week of March 6 was 13.6%, up from 11.6% for the week of February 27.

Of the local population over the age of 5, 83% have been vaccinated at least once, 80% have been vaccinated twice, and 49% have been vaccinated a third time. Please note that people under the age of 12 are not currently eligible for a third dose.
