Charity Launches £ 80m Program with U.S. Partners to Address Cancer Challenges

The world’s largest cancer research charity and the region’s largest government funder hopes to revive post-pandemic medical research and tackle the greatest challenges posed by the disease, with a new £ 295 million. We have started a partnership.

The CancerCachexiaAction Network, a large group of researchers in the United States and the United Kingdom, addresses the debilitating muscle wasting and associated weakness that plagues many people with advanced cancer. The Cancer Genetics project investigates “extrachromosomal DNA” or ecDNA, a small ring of genetic material that resides outside the chromosome that contains most of the human genome.

Another challenge is to develop new treatments for solid tumors in children with little improvement in survival over the last 30 years, as opposed to hematological cancers. In particular, the team wants to adapt an innovative immunotherapy called Car-T to pediatric patients.

Other charitable funders have made less contributions to the program. Founded by New York-based and Pamplona Capital Management Chairman Alex Knaster, the Mark Foundation for Cancer Research will donate £ 10m to the agenda for childhood cancer.
