Embassy of Kazakhstan in China warns citizens of pneumonia…
Shanghai, July 10 (Reuters)-The Chinese Embassy in Kazakhstan warned the public to take precautions against the outbreak of pneumonia in countries that say they are more deadly than COVID-19.
A statement on the official WeChat account was made late Thursday, saying there have been “significant increases” in the cities of Atyrau, Aktobe and Shymkent since mid-June.
According to the Embassy, pneumonia in Kazakhstan killed 1,772 people in the first half of the year and 628 in June alone.
“Illness mortality is much higher than that of pneumonia caused by the new coronavirus,” it said.
It remains unclear whether it is caused by a virus related to the coronavirus or another strain. The Embassy said the Ministry of Health in Kazakhstan and other health agencies are currently conducting “comparative studies”, but no conclusions have been reached.
The number of cases of pneumonia “increased by a factor of 2.2 in June compared to the same period in 2019,” according to a Tuesday report from Kazinform, Kazakhstan’s national news agency.
The Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry “had not answered questions about the warning of the Chinese embassy,” said the Global Times, a tabloid newspaper run by the People’s Daily in China.
Kazakhstan has recorded more than 50,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 264 deaths. The number of new cases hit Thursday’s daily record of 1962, Kazinfoam reported.
