1,251 new cases, 9 deaths: Orange County Coronavirus Update
Orange County, CA — Orange County reported 1,251 new cases of COVID-19 and 9 deaths on Saturday, with a total of 23,901 cases and 421 deaths in the county.
Six of the nine deaths reported on Saturday were residents of skilled nursing homes and three were not living in nursing homes, according to the Orange County Healthcare Agency.
Of the total county county, 1,315 were residents of skilled nursing homes, 422 were prisoners, and 119 were homeless, officials said.
Of all deaths from the county’s coronavirus, 212 were residents of skilled nursing homes, 15 were welfare home residents, and two were homeless.
The number of inpatients fell from 672 to 671 on Friday, while the number of intensive care patients increased from 227 to 231.
The county has reported 303,201 coronavirus tests so far, with 9,982 recovery recorded.
Earlier this week, Frank Kim, of Orange County, said the county’s recent increase in infections was expected as authorities tightened restrictions on economic activity, but young adults were seeing a significant increase.
“One of the interesting or worrisome dynamics seen in the positive rate over the past few weeks is the increase in new infections in the young population (17-24 years, 24-34 years),” Kim said. “
According to Kim, infections in these age groups have risen “dramatically fast” these days.
They also said they do not necessarily need to be hospitalized at the same rate as the elderly group.

“These trends are very worrisome. They can affect our health care system and worsen over the next few weeks,” said Dr. Kreighton Chau, interim public health officer at the Orange County Department of Health. I expect it.”
