Arizona’s largest blood supplier calls on COVID-19 survivors to donate convalescent plasma to help critically ill patients.

In mid-April, Vitalant began collecting donations of convalescent plasma containing antibodies to combat COVID-19. Then, according to an organization news release issued Monday, the need for this plasma is more than 400% higher than the donation in Arizona.

According to Vitalant, convalescent plasma is the only FDA-approved antibody treatment available to hospital patients with severe COVID-19.

To make a donation, the patient must meet eligibility requirements.

• Previous laboratory diagnosis of COVID-19 with a swab-positive or SARS-CoV-2 antibody-positive test.
• Must be asymptomatic for at least 28 days.
• All additional FDA requirements for automated plasma donation must be met.
