Bradford senior nurse survives 40-day coronavirus coma

A senior nurse, who had been in a coma for 40 days with a coronavirus, was sent emotionally off the hospital by a colleague.

Ayesha Orlanda, 52, a sister of the Royal Bradford Clinic, has been on intensive care for 41 days since she was hospitalized in May.

She was in critical condition but says she has a “second chance in life”.

Staff from four wards gathered and praised her discharge after nine and a half weeks of hospitalization.

Mr. Oranda from the Philippines, who lives in Bradford, was severely ill and was initially given a ventilator in the intensive care unit.

My sister, who worked in an acute dialysis room, eventually regained consciousness, was transferred to another ward, and continued to recover, and was hospitalized for a total of 67 days.

She said: “I feel like I’ve been given a second chance in my life. I’m one of the lucky ones.”

Orlanda further added: “I learned a lot from this journey. When you are a nurse, it’s really hard to be a patient.

“I now understand very much about the importance of being there for your patients, spending time talking to them, and trying to slow down.

“Please be patient with your patient.”
