Oregon Reports 331 New COVID-19 Cases, 2 New Deaths | Local News
Portland — COVID-19 claimed two more lives in Oregon and increased state death toll to 273, the Oregon Department of Health reported Thursday at 12:01 a.m.
The Oregon Health Authority also reported 331 newly confirmed putative cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the state to 15,713 people.
New cases are located in the following counties: Clackamas (18), Colombia (3), Coos (3), Crook (1), Deschutes (18), Douglas (13), Hood River (1), Jackson (8), Jefferson (3), Josephine (3), Klamath (13), Lake (1), Lane (12), Lincoln (5), Lynn (3), Maruru (10), Marion (39), Morrow (4), Martnoma (77), Pork (13), Tillamook (1), Umatilla (39), Wasco (6), Washington (33), Yamhill (4).
The 272nd COVID-19 death in Oregon was a 74-year-old man in Umatilla County who tested positive on June 29 and died on the Good Shepherd Healthcare System on July 16. He had fundamental conditions.
The 273th COVID-19 death in Oregon was a 79-year-old woman in Marion County who tested positive on July 8 and died at Salem Hospital on July 21. She had an underlying illness.
New modeling show needs to continue the course
OHA updated its bi-weekly modeling report today to show the different trajectories of COVID-19.
There are three scenarios for modeling.
• If the current infection rate continues, new daily infections will steadily increase over the next four weeks, with approximately 1,600 infections per day by August 13 and 27 hospitalizations.
• If infections were reduced by 10 percentage points from the current rate, the estimated number of new infections would be reduced to 600 infections per day by August 13, with 17 hospitalizations.
• Finally, in the pessimistic scenario of a 10% increase in infections from the current infection rate, there will be 46 hospitalizations by August 13, with 2,300 new infections seen daily.
Predictions indicate that the Oregons will continue to wear face coverings, stay 6 feet away, and limit the size of their socializing and have to bend the curve again. These actions, along with recent actions taken by Governor Kate Brown, will change the course of COVID-19 in the state.
