France reports largest daily surge of Covid-19 cases since end of April
Paris, August 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) In France, 2,288 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in the last 24 hours, the largest daily spike since the end of April. Last week, France registered more than 9,330 new infections, bringing the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases to 197,921, the Ministry of Health said Friday.
After May 9, when the French government began phased-in containment, 787 clusters were detected, of which 288 remained active. According to Xinhua, 21 clusters have been identified in the last 24 hours, the ministry announced Friday.

As of Friday, the number of hospitalized Covid-19 patients dropped by 49 to 5,011, a two-and-a-half month downtrend.
Currently, 383 people are in need of intensive care, seven fewer than Thursday’s number, and 12 additional coronavirus-related deaths were recorded, bringing the total to 30,324.
Local media said French scientists expected a second wave of coronaviruses to strike the country in the fall or winter due to lack of distance and barrier measures between social mixing and summer vacation. Local media reported.
They called on the French authorities to anticipate all possible scenarios, prepare a plan for the prevention of the country’s most populous metropolitan areas, and consider local blockades in the event of an epidemic.
