Houston checks measles cases with hobby airport travelers
The Houston Health Department confirmed the measles incident in an unvaccinated traveler at Hobby Airport on March 30th.
Houston – Confirmed by Houston Health Department Measles cases Among the vaccines that passed through the Hobby Airport while still infected on Sunday, March 30th, travelers arriving from Mexico were in multiple locations within the airport from 4pm to 8pm.
The infected travelled through several areas of the airport, including the West Concourse, Customs, Baggage Billing and Central Concourse before boarding the flight to their final destination.
Editor's Note: The video above is from the beginning of this week when a Harris County person under the age of 18 who has no history of travel was diagnosed with measles.
Health officials said there are no additional confirmed cases in Houston at this time, stressing that the case has nothing to do with local measles cases in the Greater Houston area.
“If you are at the hobby airport between 4 and 8pm on March 30, 2025 and are concerned about possible exposure, please call your primary care provider before seeking in-person health care,” said Dr. David Perce, the city of Houston Chief Medical Officer. “Don't visit the emergency room unless you're experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, or rash.

Measles is a highly contagious virus that spreads into the air via coughing and sneezing. Anyone who was at the airport during the designated period may have been exposed and health must be monitored for the next 21 days until April 20th.
Dr. Persse highlighted vaccinations as the best protection against measles, noting that the disease can lead to serious complications in young children and children with weakened immune systems. He urged everyone to check their vaccination status and make sure they were up to date.
