Memphis, TN — Baptist Healthcare is participating in a new clinical trial of COVID and cancer patients.
National Cancer Institute Research has begun to help scientists learn more about how coronavirus affects cancer patients being treated.
“I always say I’ll survive if I catch it,” said breast cancer survivor Angela Palmer.
Angela Palmer is doing her best to be optimistic about COVID-19. Breast cancer patients received chemotherapy and radiation therapy last year. “I’m taking precautions and I know it’s not 100, but it helps. It limits contact with the outside world,” Palmer said.
“Patients, especially those who are actively treated with chemotherapy, tend to have more serious problems with patients with a recovered COVID virus whose immune system has been cured,” said Dr. Phil Rammers of the Baptist Cancer Center. Stated.

This study will be followed for two years in the hope of answering scientists’ questions about the effects of covid-19 on cancer and the effects of cancer on the course of COVID 19. In this study, we plan to find markers of genetic risk factors and serious illnesses from COVID19. Infect cancer patients and create banks of data and blood samples for future research.
