The NHS Covid app “sent only one alert about what happened at the venue”
The NHS Covid-19 app is reported to have sent only one alert regarding the outbreak of the coronavirus at the venue, despite millions of check-ins logged in to the system.
The contact tracking app has been downloaded 16 million times since its release two weeks ago and is designed to let people know when someone nearby tests positive for the coronavirus.
Thousands of people have been told by the NHS Test and Trace to self-quarantine by text and phone, but the usefulness of the app has been questioned. In particular, privacy settings do not allow you to specify where the outbreak occurred and health authorities cannot see who checked in. ..
Sky News’ analysis of the app’s code revealed that four alerts were sent about outbreaks at the venue, three of which expired before the app was released to the public.
The warning says: “We are pleased to inform you that you may have been exposed to the coronavirus while you were out.”

Tell the user that there is only a “small risk” of infection, but be aware of the symptoms and encourage them to continue to follow the rules of social distance.
Paul Hunter, a professor of health protection at the University of East Anglia, broadcasts that the lack of app details means that venue warnings are “almost certainly unreliable as an important and effective way to control the epidemic.” I told the station.
“If that’s all done through the app and the UK Public Health Service and the local public health team know nothing about it, is it exacerbating the outbreak? Hide clusters and outbreaks from the local public health team You may be acting for.
“If that’s happening, it’s a really serious problem and will definitely make epidemic control more difficult.”
The app has issued alerts for other types of contact with infected people, such as at work, but some employers have discouraged staff from using it.
According to the BBC, one junior high school instructed staff to ignore the message and remove the app if they felt they were not within two meters of a teacher who tested positive.
Meanwhile, two major companies, including pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline, have told employees that their workplace is “Covid-secure” and that they need to be turned off during business hours.
Bars, restaurants and pubs are now legally required to display the official NHS QR code so that they can be scanned and checked in on their mobile phones.
On September 26th, the first Saturday after the launch, we recorded more than 1.5 million venue check-ins a day.
The Ministry of Health said the system is still in its infancy, but says it will be easier and more accurate to track, suggesting that privacy protection will reduce the chances of entering fake contact details.
A spokesperson for the ministry said: ‘In addition to the app’s contact tracking function, the QR code check-in system performs many important functions. In particular, it provides a digital diary asking who you were with when you tested it. positive.
“If the Heath protection team believes the venue is related to an outbreak, it can send a“ warning and notification ”message to app users who attended the venue at the same time, based on the check-in time.
