Interstate Idaho Early Receiving Potential COVID-19 Vaccine

Analysis of a Phase 3 trial in Boise, Idaho-Pfizer shows that it is more than 90% effective in preventing COVID-19 infection.
Experts say that if the data are maintained, the effect will be comparable to childhood vaccines such as measles and chickenpox.
“This is a really impressive efficacy figure,” said Salaries, Idaho’s Immunization Program Manager.
Pfizer plans to apply for an FDA emergency license for the vaccine by November 16. Vaccines can then be shipped to states approved for early distribution, such as Idaho, based on the state’s storage capacity of the vaccine.
“The requirement here is that there must be an ultra-low temperature freezer in the place where the vaccine is given early,” Leeds said. “These are not very common types of freezers.”
Leeds states that these ultra-low temperature freezers are essential for storage as it will take at least two more weeks to stamp the final approval of the vaccine administered by the National Commission.
“Early distribution means that you can get it after an emergency license, store it until the Immunization Advisory Board meets and approves it, and then start vaccination immediately,” Leeds said. .. “It’s just 24 to 48 hours from the head start, so to speak.”
Leeds says Idaho’s more vulnerable population will be the first priority.
“We expected the top priority population to be healthcare workers, so we expect them to be the first people to choose to be vaccinated,” Leeds said.
According to Leeds, health care workers are followed by adults over the age of 65 and people at high risk.
If all goes according to plan, the vaccine may be available to Aida Juan by December 1st.
