A new tool to measure quality of life for people with dementia

Researchers at the University of Queensland say new tools to measure the quality of life of people with dementia will lead to more targeted care for people living in that condition.

This method evaluates five major domains that contribute to: Quality of life-Physical health, mood, memory, living conditions, ability to engage in fun activities, and, importantly, dementia.

Associate Professor Tracy Comans health Quality of life is considered to be the most important factor, followed by the living conditions of the person.

“We found that people with dementia and their caregivers have different priorities than the general public, and their living conditions and ability to do fun are valued as the most important contributors to quality of life.” Associate Professor Tracy Comans said.

The researchers say the tool can be used to ensure that the perspectives of people with dementia and their caregivers are included when considering interventions to improve quality of life.

Dr. Comans said this is a fairer way than relying solely on the agent’s point of view.
