Immunize the homeless in Pueblo
Pueblo, Colorado — Colorado’s public health experts continue to push the population towards herd immunity against COVID-19, and Pueblo’s organization is working to vaccinate those struggling to fire. I’m out.
On Monday, the Pueblo Police and Fire Department, the County Sheriff’s Office, the Pueblo Food Project, and the Beura Fire Department boarded an OHV to reach people living near Fountain Creek.
“The problem with people living in Fountain Creek is that they don’t have the many resources available,” said Sgt Franklyn Ortega of PPD. “They don’t really have access to the sites where they offer vaccines.”
It was part of PPD and was regularly inspected by other organizations every few months. They bring in some meals and some ministers and try to connect people with the resources to get out of the homeless.
“It’s just one of the things we try to create a situation where we can interact and talk with the general public and at the same time help people in the community,” Sgt said. Ortega said.
Only eight people were vaccinated on Monday, most were already vaccinated, and others didn’t want the vaccine, Ortega says.
However, more than 60 people were fed and several met with the ministers for help.
“They don’t want to be in Pueblo, they want to be with their families elsewhere, and as long as they have resources elsewhere, our ministers will help them go elsewhere.” And Sgt. Ortega said.
Ortega said PPD and other organizations are likely to provide similar assistance to unprotected people to protect them from pandemics.
