The first case of the COVID-19 mutant first detected in India appears in southern Nevada – St. George News

Clark County, Nevada — The Southern Nevada Health District has identified the first known case of the B.1.617.2 variant in Clark County. The B.1.617.2 variant was first identified in India and is considered a variant of concern.

According to a press release from the health district, the mutant was detected locally in a sample tested by the Public Health Institute in southern Nevada. The Institute of Public Health is conducting a sequence as part of ongoing surveillance to detect mutations that may be circulating in Clark County.

A resident of Clark County who tested positive for the B.1.617.2 variant is a woman in her twenties. She has not reported a recent trip, has not been hospitalized, and has not been vaccinated with COVID-19. A contact investigation is being conducted.
