Takeda’s dengue vaccine has shown long-term efficacy results
Takeda Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., a Japanese pharmaceutical company, announced that TAK-003, a candidate for dengue vaccine, has shown continuous protection for three years after vaccination, regardless of exposure to previous illnesses.
The Phase III TIDES trial enrolled more than 20,000 healthy children and adolescents aged 4 to 16 years in Latin American and Asian dengue endemic countries.
From the safety and efficacy results of TIDES’s 36-month follow-up analysis, TAK-003 was 62% overall against virologically confirmed dengue fever (VCD) 3 years after vaccination. Showed vaccine efficacy.
Jab also showed 83.6% vaccine efficacy (VE) against hospitalized dengue fever, 86% VE in seropositive individuals and 77.1% VE in seronegative individuals.

Previously, Takeda announced that the TIDES trial met the overall VE primary endpoint for VCD and all secondary endpoints with sufficient dengue cases at a 12-month follow-up.
Data from the TIDES trial to the 36-month follow-up are included in regulatory submissions to the European Union, as well as dengue endemic countries.
The results will also be part of a further regulatory submission planned for 2021, including the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral disease caused by any of the four dengue viral serotypes, all of which can cause dengue or severe dengue.
The disease is “pandemic-prone” and generally occurs in tropical and subtropical regions, but has recently been observed in the continental United States and parts of Europe.
