UK-EU Divergence Tracker Q1 2024

The UK version of the UK-EU Regulatory Differences Tracker in a Changing Europe covers developments from January to March 2024.

The Divergence Tracker provides an overview of where and how the UK has diverged from EU rules. It identifies and analyzes the most significant examples of differences between the UK and the EU over the period. Explain what the changes are, how they affect you, and what additional consequences may occur.

In the first quarter 2024 version, the tracker found five active divergence cases (when the UK or parts of it change their rules). 15 passive divergences (where the EU changes its rules and the UK or parts of it do not follow them) 'NI divergences' (a new category covering cases where action is taken on the potential application of new or updated EU law in Northern Ireland) One of them. One of procedural divergences (where a new process is introduced to change how an existing divergence is managed) and three active adjustments (where the UK takes steps to align itself more closely with EU rules, systems or programs).

A notable trend in the tracker is the huge gap, led by the EU due to the rush to complete the files before the June parliamentary elections. Unlike the EU, the UK's legislative pace has slowed ahead of the general election.
