The number of COVID-19 remains low despite a slight increase | Local
Active cases and hospitalizations for COVID-19 infections increased slightly on Monday, according to a daily report from the South Dakota Department of Health.
In the fifth consecutive report, active infections in the state increased. Currently, there are 174 active cases in the state. This is four increases from the Friday report. The number of people being treated for COVID-19 infections in South Dakota hospitals has increased from 6 to 21. There are 6 people in the intensive care unit and 3 people on the ventilator. In the Black Hills area, there are 5 patients in the hospital, 3 in the ICU and 2 in the ventilator.
Five of the 20 new cases reported on Monday in Pennington County. Butte County and Meade County each had one new proceeding. Meade County was listed as having a moderate community spread, but this week it has declined to a minimal spread.
Minnehaha County recorded three positive tests on Monday, and Brown, Codington, and Roberts County all had two cases. The Davison, Day, Hamlin, and Todd counties each reported one new infection.
Of the 20 new cases on Monday, six were children under the age of 19 and eight were patients in their twenties. There were two people over the age of 70 who tested positive on Monday’s report.
