Emmy-winning Bosom Buddies actor Peter Scolari has died at 66

Washington [US], October 23 (ANI): US actor Peter Scolari, who starred alongside his lifelong friend Tom Hanks on the early 1980s sitcom “Bosom Buddies”, died on Friday at the age of 66.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Scolari, an Emmy winner whose credits also included HBO’s “Newhart” and “Girls,” had been living with cancer for two years.
A native of New Rochelle, New York, Scolari landed his first major acting role in the 1980 ABC short-lived comedy “Goodtime Girls”. Later that year, he and then-unknown Hanks starred. in “Bosom Buddies,” playing two guys who dress up as women to live in an affordable, all-female apartment building.
The show, also on ABC, only lasted two seasons, but it sparked a more than 40-year friendship between the two actors.
Scolari and Hanks would work together several times over the following decades, with Scolari appearing in his friend’s first film, “That Thing You Do!” ”, And the HBO miniseries produced by Hanks“ From the Earth to the Moon ”. The two both worked on the vocals on “The Polar Express” from 2003.
After the cancellation of “Bosom Buddies” in 1982, Scolari joined Newhart in 1984 and remained with the series until its conclusion in 1990.
He became a close friend and frequent golf partner of star Bob Newhart during the show’s run, and they have remained close thereafter.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, in a statement, Bob said, “I knew Peter was sick, but his death is still a great shock. We have been friends and colleagues for over 40 years. Julia [Duffy] and Peter, as an empty couple (Michael and Stephanie), have been a vital part of Newhart’s success. She was a fantastic person in life, and it was a joy to work together. He will be sadly missed and his passing at 66 is far too soon. “
Scolari was nominated for three Emmy Awards for her role in “Newhart”. Twenty-seven years after his third nomination for this show, he won a Guest Emmy for playing Hannah’s (Lena Dunham) father in “Girls.”
In recent years, Scolari had returned to CBS now Paramount plus the drama “Evil” and appeared in shows such as “Gotham” by Fox, “Fosse / Verdon” by FX, and “Lisey’s Story” on Apple TV plus. (ANI)
