San Jose Earthquakes young player on trial with Bayern Munich

San Jose Earthquakes Academy midfielder Cruz Medina has become the latest young American to venture to Germany in a bid to impress Bayern Munich.

Medina, who won the Ballon d’Or (Player of the Year) in the U-15 youth category in the upcoming 2021 MLS Cup last season, may be looking to move abroad. American football journalist Grant Wahl posted this footage of a city scoring during its trial with Bayern Munich’s Under-16 team:

Not long after the city moved to the San Jose COEX Academy (SJEarthquakes.com):

Medina started playing football with his father’s club Bay City at around the age of four and played there until he was 11 years old. Prior to joining Quakes Academy, Medina was competing for SF Glens, a subsidiary of Quakes’ Partners in Development.

“Stephen Sosa was the coach for Glens Academy and Earthquakes Academy at the time.” Medina explained. “As the season went on, I started training with the Quakes during the season. By the end of that season, I made the transition.”

Under Sosa’s leadership, Medina had the opportunity to train at the same time with COEX Academy and moved on fully in 2018 with the U-14 team.

It is also said that RB Leipzig and Mainz are also interested in the city.
