“For now, the GMCH doctor has told me that the trial will be done using only my plasma,” he said.
According to ICMR guidelines, plasma therapy can be used for Covid patients with moderate illness.
Currently, the city has 8 moderate and 2 critically ill patients, who are receiving oxygen support.
Last month, GMCH Dean Sajal Mitra confirmed to the TOI that he was counseling two patients as final candidates in the trial. Some patients were reportedly reluctant to donate plasma.
“About 20 days ago, GMCH asked if I could donate plasma. Without rethinking, I agreed with the cause. I believe in community service. They call again and they call blood I asked me to come in for a sample, which was investigated and found suitable for donating plasma.
On Friday, Totowani was asked to complete the consent form again, and then a reservation was made at 1:00 am on Saturday.
According to ICMR guidelines, patients must be asymptomatic for 28 days after discharge. Totowani was discharged from the GMCH Covid ward on April 10.
IGGMCH sources said they were also counseling patients who were discharged to provide convalescent plasma.
Some Tabligi Jamaat (TJ) members were admitted to IGGMCH in April. Several members donated their plasma in various parts of the country.
Official Maulana Abdrama Zahiri of Nagpur Markaz said he has called on all community members to donate plasma, although it has not been confirmed.
