EU signs trade with Bavarian Scandinavian for supply of 110,000 monkeypox vaccines

Brussels, June 14 (Reuters)-European Union signs agreement with Bavarian Scandinavian on Tuesday (BAVA.CO) The EU Commission and the company said it would supply about 110,000 doses of vaccine against monkeypox.
Vaccines will be purchased with EU funding and delivered to EU states, said EU health commissioner Stella Kiriyakides. Doses are provided in proportion to the population, starting in the states with the most urgent needs.
Delivery will begin immediately and will be completed within a few months, the company said. After trading with the EU and other small deals on vaccine supply, we have raised our earnings outlook this year.

According to the European Commission, about 900 cases of monkeypox have been reported in 19 EU countries, also in Norway and Iceland, and are entitled to doses even though they are not EU member states.
The Danish biotechnology Bavarian Nordic vaccine, known in Europe as Imvanex and in the United States as Jynneos, has been approved for smallpox.
According to the EU Commission, a vaccine against monkeypox has not yet been approved in the EU.
“But the smallpox vaccine protects people from monkeypox because the virus is closely associated with the smallpox virus,” the committee said.
According to the European Commission, EU drug regulators are currently in talks with Bavarian Nordic about the rapid approval of vaccines for monkeypox.
Some EU member states, including Germany and Spain, have already ordered their own monkeypox vaccine. read more
