Mental health awareness is important every month of the year
With Mental Health Month ending at the end of May, I would like to emphasize the importance of bringing awareness to the remaining 11 months of the year.
According to Mental Health America, Ohio has 23.64%, the fourth highest percentage of adults experiencing mental illness in 2022. At 6.09%, the percentage of adults who are serious about suicide in 2022 is the third highest.
This means that one in four friends, colleagues, family and neighbors suffers from mental health. These statistics may be hard to hear, but they are important for understanding the seriousness of this crisis in our state.
Mental health affects every aspect of life, including mood, behavior, relationships, interests, and even physical health. So what can we help, especially as labor leaders? I would like to provide some resources that I find useful in both professional and personal contexts.
