Suspected Monkeypox Case Confirmed at Maricopa County Jail
An internal email obtained by the Arizona Republic said a person in the Maricopa County Jail “has suspected monkeypox.”
An email sent Thursday to Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office officials referred to “monkeypox inmates” being held in the prison clinic.

A reply from the shift supervisor said, “We have reviewed the CDC’s recommendations and are treating it as positive Covid at this time.”

As of Friday, there were 11,177 confirmed cases of monkeypox in the United States, including 170 in Arizona, according to the CDC.
