Meanwhile, a moderately strong earthquake rocked a city in northeastern Turkey on Thursday, prompting people to take to the streets in fear.

The epicenter of the earthquake, which measured 4.8 on the Richter scale, was in the city of Bolu, 260 km east of Istanbul.

Bolu Mayor Tangu Ozkan told Haber Turk TV that there were no reports of damage to any buildings in the city, but he said many people rushed outside in fear.

He said paramedics responded to “one or two” panic attacks. A few people were also injured after jumping from balconies.
