The Pillar Foundation in Ann Arbor is a fundraiser for earthquake survivors

Ann Arbor – Tamale meals purchased during a special fundraiser on May 7 will support survivors of the recent earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

Organized by the Pillar Foundation, the event will provide funds for MSF missions to help survivors in both countries.

The Ann Arbor nonprofit was founded by Pilar Tamales owner Sylvia Nolasco-Rivers, whose family was affected by an earthquake in El Salvador in the early 1980s.

Meals at the May 7th event will include vegan tamales prepared by Pillar’s Tamales, a side dish from Harissa Restaurant, dessert from Cardamom Restaurant, and beverages from Hyperion Coffee and TeaHaus. Gift certificates to Bløm Meadworks and York will be included.

Meal tickets range in price from $75 to $175 and can be purchased online here.

The meal will be picked up between 3 and 6 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church at 1501 W. Liberty Street.

The Pilar Foundation regularly organizes fundraisers to support refugees and those in need. The last fundraiser, held in March, raised $10,000 for Afghan families relocating to Washtenaw County.
