A 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck the Victorian town of Rawson

A magnitude 4.6 earthquake struck eastern Victoria on Friday morning and thousands of people reported feeling the event.

The quake occurred at 1.30 am with its epicenter near Rawson, a town about 170 kilometers east of Melbourne.

It was a magnitude of 4.6 and a depth of 7 kilometers.

Geoscience Australia reports that as of Friday morning, more than 7,000 people have reported feeling the earthquake, including across Melbourne.

The Bureau of Standards confirmed that there was no tsunami threat to Australia after the earthquake.

Two weeks ago, Victoria had a smaller 2.8-magnitude earthquake in the southeast and a week before that, the Mornington Peninsula recorded a 2.3-magnitude earthquake.

A few days before that, Melbourne was rocked by a magnitude 3.8 earthquake.
