Srinagar: An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale shook the Kashmir valley on Wednesday. Officials said that so far no injuries or property damage have been reported from anywhere.

According to Meteorological Department officials, a 5.2 magnitude earthquake shook the Kashmir Valley this morning at around 10.43 am and its epicenter was likely in the Afghanistan region.

Tremors were felt in several places in the valley. In some places, people rushed to leave their homes and workplaces.

Earthquakes have caused great damage to the valley in the past, and it is located in an earthquake-prone area.

On October 8, 2005, a devastating 7.6-magnitude earthquake killed thousands of people on both sides of the Line of Control.
